Perseus Traxx – A Girl Named Rebecca [CHIWAX007]

With releases under a range of pseudonyms (Orpheus, Sir Leon Greg, Nite Vision), once again Perseus Traxx unashamedly shows his nature on this release. Thoughts, feelings and emotions are by far the most important influences on music, and capturing moments then translating into a musical form he once again documents the more personal elements of his life, taking you deep. Perseus weaves a rich tapestry of emotions and desires using heavily weighted bass tones and skipping percussion that thread together with expansive strings and pads. These are married with more detailed melodies and modulated tones that shimmer in and out of the psyche as he uses analogue boxes and their warmth like a loom. This collection of music ranges from the deep and dreamy, to total transcendence within steady dance floor rhythms clothed in a warm yet spacious fabric of sound. Deep House, sometimes with a real sense of urgency that juxtaposes with itʼs inherent flights of fancy.

Perseus Traxx – Raw Cuts [SUIT003]

Stay Underground, It Pays with the 3rd release from Perseus Traxx. The analog man is back with some killer tracks, deep & jacking chicago sounds with haunting pads, big basselines & some classic TR 707 – 909 drum machines. The title track ‘Hindsight’ is a raw bumpy cut with a sneaky bassline going all along with rolling claps & rims. Influenced by all the best 80’s trax records releases, it’s a late night masterpiece of minimalistic electronic sounds. The 4 other tracks ‘Late night calls’, ‘A slave to feelings’, ‘How the future lies’ & the crazy ‘wrangle’ are clearly working in the same movement.

The Japanese lord of darkness comes back home with this brand new release. This time he delivers three original tracks, plus two Oscar Mulero remixes;  five tracks of the purest techno around: incisive, cyclical and futuristic. On the A side, “Dull acuity” is a power-fuelled track with repetitive synth sequences, massive kick drums and shuffled 909 hi hats. Subtle micro drones fly over the beat, constantly evolving and changing. “Common Blank” starts with broken rhythms till the metallic percussions come in. A high-pitched pad sound adds tension to the arrangement, as do various digital noises. On the B side, OM reworks “Common Blank”. He uses fatter kicks, but preserves the broken rhythms, and the same opaque and grey sounds you can hear on his latest album, Black Propaganda. “First refusal” slows down the speed a lot, introducing organic Koto sounds, and guitar-like sequences. Dreamy atmospheres add melancholy to the overall feeling, creating a great intelligent techno track with an industrial gothic flavour.

Nite Vision – Distant Planes EP [CHIWAX005]

Nite Vision’s second outing arrives via the meteorically rising Chiwax label. Craig Stainton and NigelRogers have once again combined their knowledge and love for warm synth tones. Distant Planes is an intoxicatingly psychedelic adventure into House music, interconnecting a range of new and old machines to generate a distinctively timeless fog of sound that transports the mind to other realms while forcing the body to move in its most primal and expressive way. All extracted live from the machines, the whole thing simply throbs a simplicity that while seeming basic and unfettered by the details of much of the over produced music currently available, somehow remains rich and complex in its sound and feel. This is as deep as it is mystical, a true interdimensional journey.

Trus’me – Treat Me Right [PNLP003]

https://clone.nl/platen/artwork/large/plaatimage25795.jpg

February 2013 sees the release of ‘Treat Me Right’, a new album from Trus’me. Its his first album in 3 years and to a certain extent marks a change in direction from the predecessors. Here’s what the man himself has to say as way of an introduction to the new album. “Since ‘In The Red’ I found myself traveling as far as Japan and South America and experiencing new scenes and people that has influenced my sound both in the studio and behind the decks. Traveling so much has forced me to change my way of making music, I would say now I have a more ‘anoligital’ approach to my production techniques. The final production stage will always remain an analogue process but the creative process has become more digital. You can’t take all those lovely synths and machines on the road with you.  With ‘Working Nights’ I wanted to create a cohesive hour of music from start to finish, whereas ‘In The Red’ was a way to push myself and learn new engineering and production techniques, working with live musicians such as Amp Fiddler and Dam Funk. ‘Treat Me Right’ saw me move into the realm of synths, drum machines to create the sounds of the scene I had been submerged in over the last 4-5 years. Working on new music while on the road is hard, and fragmented sessions all came together once I was stationary in Manchester. I stayed away from the impulse of my love of sampling and musicianship and trapped myself in a room, so that the final outcome would be a true representation on the sound they call analogue.”
