Magnetic Soul – Summer Love [DHND002]

Essential 4 track EP of deep disco and summer soul, boogie house and steady groovin funk edits. All tracks are given Magnetic Souls expert disco dub treatment focusing on grooves, added presence and beefed up bottom end for a solid dance floor feel. The A side enters the spacious tropical House vibes of Summer Love and the delightful slow building soul strings and vocal of Universal Love. The B side hits first with some low slung, raw funk grooves with added brass stabs and leaves us on psychedelic soul funk, la Gil Scott of Cold Outside.

Jose Rico – Declaration Of Intent EP [AMBIWA001]

Jose Rico launches the Le Disque Record Stores project: Ambiwa Records, a label dedicated to abstract House music. ”Declaration of Intent EP” is a collection of songs with a history, 4 pieces of his life talking about hypocrisy referred to poverty; the trivialisation of music as money source; the days in the studio with Ron Trent; and the night music-workers. Beyond any related stories, here you can find all the Jose Rico’s music standards: Impossible MPC percussion patterns, black keys, vocal textures, distorted kicks and tons of suspense and tension.

Ike Release – Watercolors EP [EPISODES007]

The return of the Windy City’s Ike Release to the tougher than solid Episodes label. Mr.Ike Velez makes his appearance heard quickly and loudly from the first bass drum of “Apollo3”, an all-out dancefloor winner with a distinctive US edge, sci-fi sonics and gorgeous hardware tweaks. “Guzzle” is more soulful and chord-heavy, while “Socialite” takes a dusty drum programme and chucks it over a deep house vibe, and title track “Watercolours” wins the beauty show thanks to its pounding beat and majestic waves of synths.

Tuff City Kids – Underground House Research Vol. 2 [POTION003]

This is Potion number three. The Tuff City Kids have spent some time in the lab and created four fine potions to ease our ailments. Like memories of a Nexus 6, these tracks are machine made but feel organic, familiar and timeless. Programmed to make us dance, they reach straight for our brain’s motion centre. “Carden Eden” has been included in Prosumer’s fabric mix and we are proud to finally present it on vinyl, together with three brand new companions as “Underground House Research Vol. 2″. Philipp Lauer and Gerd Janson have built an excellent reputation for the Tuff City Kids moniker in the three years they are releasing together. And if you got this far into reading this, you surely know already what absolute legends they are.

Amir Alexander – Sonic Subversion EP [PBR043]

Amir Alexander returns to New York’s Plan B Recordings with three dusty house trax. “Channeling” kicks things off with a sullen, funky bassline and intricate swings of percussion backed by distant piano keys, whereas “Deep Banger”, as the title suggests, is more of a straight-up house jerker, and “Nocturnal” fuzzes things out with its growling bassline and eerie background atmospherics.

Phrased – Star Maker [LBP004]

Neither L.B. Produce or mysterious production outfit Phrased give much away, aside from a few hints at their love of old music-making hardware. That trait comes to the fore on this third Phrased 12″. Musically, it’s pleasingly varied, moving from the fluctuating acid lines, Detroit electro swing and sci-fi electronics of “Star Making”, to the hypnotic, becalmed, ambient dub flex of closer “Morello”. Along the way, they also find time to squeeze in a dash of ultra-deep IDM (the blissful “Diatom”), and an impressive excursion into classic, dubby deep house territory (“What’s Good For You”).

Hieroglyphic Being & The Truth Theory Trio – Keep Your Mind Open [BDN007]

The Bedouin imprint continues on with its quest for the sublime and exotic in modern techno and house music. Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being & The Truth Theory Trio delivers more of his signature dusty lo fi electronics but gets an industrial tinged stomp on with “Keep Your Mind Open” and it’s absolutely killer. On the flip is “That Is The Name Of The African God” which is an analogue jam that sounds more like the Hieroglyphic Being we know.

Dj Steaw – Everydayz EP [TU003]

Contemporary deep house with the bumping grooves of classic Jersey garage. Tapping up the talents of French producer DJ Steaw, the EP is dominated by “Everydayz”, combining an ultra-crisp percussive arrangement with resonant bass, hands in the air keys and breathy vocals, as tight a dancefloor house construction as you’re likely to hear in the near future. On the flip, the producer provides the “Deep mix” of the same track, inverting the mood with its cloak of midnight vibes, soundtracking the club rather than the terrace. The real gem however is “Morning Light” mixing up the formula with its driving bassline and richly filtered atmospherics.

Heinrich Dressel – Lurking Underwater [BAR004]

DRESSEL, Heinrich - Lurking Underwater

Burek’s sister label Barba on its fourth release introduces Heinrich Dressel, project related working name of Valerio, a force behind MinimalRome label from Italy. His productions have been gaining serious attention amongst deeper electro connoisseurs who appreciate almost cinematic feel but still with an eye on the floor which resulted in quite a few moody smashers released on various EPs in the past. Three tracks here evoking familiar feelings heard before but still somehow they all sound fresh and drag you in wanting for more. As if this wouldn’t do it, there is first but, not last appearance for Barba label by mighty JTC who needs no further introduction delivering a remix. This time he cleverly uses sparse but recognizable parts of title track which he then transforms into relentless floor shaker where Detroit meets Chicago, if any such comparison needs to be made.

VA – Letting Go [GTBR002]

Warsaw based imprint Get The Balance Right have demonstrated an interest in retro-inspired sounds of Chicago House and Detroit Techno on previous releases but now venture into electro territory with this various artists compilation. Ever Moving’s “Find A Way” may sound contradictory at start with its gentle, house style keys on top of a dark, booming Aaron Carl style bass groove, but it actually works. Mutual Attraction’s “New Horizon” is simply stunning, a soulful house journey reminiscent of classic Chez Damier or Larry Heard. There are then two electro tracks by Greek electro auteur Itpdwip in the shape of “It Doesnt Hurt Me” and The Waters Of Styx” which sound like early Model 500. It’s the Jeremiah R remix of the latter is a real highlight on here, channeling the best impression of Gerald Donald we’ve heard of late.

Koloman Trax – Thoughts In Sound [CAVALIER001]

Cavalier deliver their first 12″. Koloman Trax steps up with three dreamy, deep and distorted house excursions. Channeling thumping machine beats, winding pads and tape saturated grooves, all combining to make one introspective, infectious debut.

Dj Steaw – Aquarius EP [TINKTWICE020V]

Next up on Tomorrow Is Now, Kid! is an EP from Rutilance Recordings owner, DJ Steaw. The French artist crafted four sturdy tracks on this fresh EP. It is a perfect blend between Chicago and New York House, with a big splash of Acid throughout the disc. The hypnotising percussion and grimy sounds take you to new, unforeseen places. Keywords for best describing this 12″ are, beyond any doubt, deep and vigorous. Enjoy these four definite killers in the club.

VA – Five Years On Parole: What’s Happening [UV030]

Believe it or not but Uncanny Valley looks back on five years of releasing records this summer. Instead of just turning into the typical Greatest hits-routine the label heads Albrecht, Carl, Conrad and Philipp decided to look back and forth. So, besides a record that unleashes four tracks from the vaults of these five years there will be a record with new material too. Here’s “Uncanny Valley: Five Years On Parole – what’s happening”. Tracks by Chinaski, Derive (Sneaker and June), Panthera Krause and  Iron Curtis.

Marco Bernardi – The Dancing Clowns [BH022]

The forever under-rated Marco Bernardi steps out on Berceuse Heroique with this fifteen-minute epic, evoking the glory days of Carl Craig. On the flip, Specter from Sound Signature draws the dancefloor in deep.
