Bill Converse – 7 Of 9 And Ahead [TRU002]

Texas Recordings Underground made its mark this Spring with the well-received techno/electro Cyber_Tex EP that featured electro wizard Cygnus and E.R.P. aka Gerard Hanson. Not to rest on his laurels, TX Connect’s Gavin Guthrie is following that up with the 2nd release on the label by Austin’s man-of-the-moment Bill Converse. His debut on T.R.U. contains 2 deep excursions with 7 of 9 and Ahead, both tech house masterworks that mix elements of Chicago and Detroit with a Texas flair that keeps it definitively Bill Converse.

Romans – Valere Aude [BK020]

Valere Aude, the debut album from Romans, a collaborative project between New York techno producer Gunnar Haslam and Vienna-based acid evangelist Johannes Auvinen (aka Tin Man). Featuring 12 tracks of hallucinogenic, psychedelic techno, Valere Aude is an acid-etched trip to the outer reaches of the mind. The finished product is a steamy, moody record, experimenting with atmospheres, tempos, and sounds, designed for blistering hot days and cold, rainy nights. We couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.

Device Control – Most People [LIES031.5]

Device Control is Jake Reif’s new solo production outlet which draws equally from the pools of early Wax Trax and Medusa’s with the hybrid pit jack of early Farris or Rush. Machine made yet with a soul, all four cuts are for the true hyper jackers on the floor, tested and recomended. Born in New York and spending his formative years in the mid-West, Jake Reif has served time amongst some of the best, producing alongside both Mystic Bill as well as Reade Truth; releasing well recieved 12s on Rong Music and a break out remix on Snuff Trax in recent years. Back in the day you could catch Jake clocking hours working at Sonic Groove Records among a motley crew of heavy hitters whilst honing his talents.

Umwelt – Density EP [MA011]

The eleventh Modal Analysis release introduces Umwelt, with his debut appearance on the label. Density EP is a 4 track release blending Umwelt’s unique style which is a perfect fit with the Modal Analysis aesthetic. Industrial meets electro here, and the Lyon based producer joins the sound of Athens. Density #1 fully reflects Umwelts skills on enigmatic riffs and fat bass-lines. Density #2 and Density #3 sneak into the more dance-floor minded record bags, while Density#4 feeds a melodic/melancholic feeling whilst hard hitting beats bring it home.

Prolific Dutch artist Conforce is back on his most regular label, Delsin, with a fresh new four track EP. Where bubbling underwater baselines and coarse claps making the more techno leaning grooves.

Modes – Scenario [SPAZIO005]

Keeping up their fine schedule, the Spazio Disponibile label is back with a fifth excellent EP, this time from Modes. Modes is an artist who is making his debut here, and he is one of a few guys Spazio is creating a platform for in the coming months. Modes fits right in with the deeply subliminal, transcendental style of the label and its associated party in Rome. Opener ‘M52’ is a supple and sci-fi mix of smooth rubber kicks and Millsian melodies that are trippy and hypnotic. ‘M51’ is darker and moodier, with smeared pads and grainy ambience making for a big and shadowy chamber of end-of-days techno that is full of foreboding, and finally ‘M44’ is more forceful and brutal, with reverb and electricity static adding texture to the cavernous airwaves.

Tensal – Subaquatic Saga [OWN008]

Under the surface of the sea, immersed into the deep, where light is just utopic… waiting till the end of tempest. Tensal comes back with his second EP to the Berlin based imprint ”Ownlife”. Subaquatic Saga is the confirmation of the cyclical sound, the exahustive development from one of the producers who synthesized this genre in a better way in the last years. This time, he decomposes his usual formula showing new directions of his particular vision of the future sound of techno.

Fabrizio Lapiana – Laq 04 [ATTICL004]

The fourth LAQ is proudly made by Attic’s owner Fabrizio Lapiana. His melodic techno taste is employed into each track moving from hypnotic hard strings of the ”Cold In Summer” to the sour and acidic groove of ”Acid Smiles” (both on the first side). In the b-side Fabrizio goes into more hypnotic and obsessive sound. A sort of progressive-techno vibes served to people who never-stop dancing.

Black Merlin – Control [BNR159]

Black Merlin continues to push his retro-aggressive style forward to now- his new EP ‘Control’ for Boysnoize Records. Power, discipline, CONTROL- the word itself is inseparable from the aesthetic mythos of industrial music, channeled so adeptly by Black Merlin across the 4 track release. The first two cuts, ‘Control’ and ‘Secondo,’ capture the neurotic, mechanical energy of a fantasy after-hours in a weapons factory- the kind of sci-fi meets political unrest wet dream that was Amiga-tracked through every undercut, black booted teenager’s imagination in the late 80’s. Production evoking the most dancefloor forward moments of Front 242, a sound both retro and contemporary but firmly planted in dark and aggressive EBM… Sound familiar for a BNR release these days We hope so.
