M//R aka Billy Werner delivers the goods through 4 stylistically diverse tracks we see him move through techno, electro, slow beat head nod cuts, and psychedelic broken beat UK cut ups. Usually a record of such would be a head spinning genre disaster of ransom note proportions but M//R pulls it off with style and power, each track strongly standing out on it’s own.

Amsterdam-based producer Jeff Rushin’s Mote Evolver debut opens with “Coda,” which flawlessly builds anticipation as a shivering sequence slowly creeps in and out of the listener’s headspace, accompanied by sharp claps and huge subterranean kicks. “Facing the Truth” combines the same commanding kick sound with busy cymbal shivers. “Enigma” applies Rushin’s calm but forceful approach to what feels like a journey through a forest of translucent filaments. “A Figment of His Imagination” has the EP’s hardest edge, with intense hydraulic pumping and titanium-plated industrial pounding, yet Rushin’s deft programming and arranging skills elevate the track beyond a rote exercise in aggression.
Liverpool’s Binny debuts on Monnom Black imprint, a label reserved for the darker of techno joints. In apt style, “Mispress” kicks things off in a menacing fashion, blasting out heavy kicks, minimal melodies and rough shots of percussion, followed by the bouncier but nonetheless charged belter that is “Outline”. Over on the flipside, “Quarantine” is a dirty squelcher in the style of Surgeon and Regis, while “Event Horizon” recalls Jeff Mills at his poignant and would sit incredibly well in a set by the man himself.
Another release from Spencer Parker’s Work Them imprint. It’s brutalist peak time techno from Sam Coates. The A side features “Man Ray” a bleak, peak time monster and “Movement’ which channels that old grating, loopy. On the flip is the cyclical madness of “Ulterior Motive” with its mesmerising synth melody and kicks on the clap. Finally “Menifesto” is more restrained with its warped style melody and true roller of a groove.
San Francisco sorts Honey Soundsystem largely stuck to offering up fairly experimental albums and cassette compilations. Jackie House’s “Skydive” certainly fits into this category, offering a spacey, synth-wave influenced take on early Chicago house. It swings, jacks and pumps in all the right places, with the action focused around a killer bassline. Matrixxman delivers the flipside remix, turning the loose and cheery original into a dark storm of thunderous kick drums, woozy chords and late night techno intent.
FFFC (Florence Foster Fan Club) are no strangers in our world of electronic music. Besides releases on their own the musicians behind this project are involved in numerous other projects like Sumerian Fleet, Zarkoff and Le Chocolat Noir. Recently they started operating out of an abandoned factory situated behind the (former) iron curtain. At this place they have collected all their synthesizers and started jamming. This 12” EP is a selection from recordings from these sessions.
Hailing from Holland, Monocorpse serves dark electronix/techno. Extremely minimal, raw and primitive in sound and the tracks are ritual and occult in orientation and mood. Think of the previous Gooiland Elektro releases by Drvg Cvltvre and Ekman but stripped down to the essence and pitch black.
FOQL belongs to the same Polish electronic music collective as Marburg, but the sound of this project is truly different. Hypatia EP is delicate and even fragile maybe… It has the ritual feeling like some of the music by Coil has, and fuses ambient, electronix and techno in the same way Kobosil can do. In short, this is a record for well informed and well educated music lovers.

Fred P’s Soul People Music returns with a full length from the artist formerly known as Kapser and Esperanza main man Jose Cabrera. Last seen on Peterkin’s newly inaugurated Boards imprint, the Madrid native presents us with some killer techno tracks on here. “Endorphinas” sounds like a restrained take on the Jeroen Search & Dimi Angelis sound, and sounds great! “Human Behaviour” is brooding moody techno at its finest. On the other side “Nebula 584 (feat. Dario Zenker)” is the kind of steely cyclical techno you would expect from such a collaboration while “Hyperion” is more on the Robert Hood tip with its entrancing stabs that repeat on and entrance you with, you guessed it; claps on the kick; and it’s rather infectious.
Expander, a courageous warrior creates the base for the foundation of this EP and passes it on to other, extremely talented artists, that will be featured in Festival Forte 2015: NX1, Apart and Vatican Shadow.
Jonas Kopps returns to Tresor with a powerful and club-oriented EP, ”HHH”. Over the past 10 years Kopp has explored and found himself confortable in many genres of music ranging from housey beats to hypnotic techno. This particular release finds itself comfortably in the middle of a dark and dusty dance floor.
P.E.A.R.L. surges through with an emanating soundscape of near, far and leftfield embodiment of energy. Abrasive and dancefloor-focused “Desolation” is no stranger to the harder sounds of percussion. With a subtle ghost, and ever tense, this track rides through red traffic lights, and begins at the end of your comfort zone.
