TMO – Insomniac EP [PP012]
Munich purveyors of fine new wave Balearic are it again with a release this time with TMO (aka Moscow’s Lepelis who has previously appeared on L.I.E.S. and 303 State) with the Insomniac EP. First track “Melodic Jam” sounds like a disturbed cover of Frankie Knuckles “The Whistle Song” albeit with some epic mono-synth spitting out the melody instead, soon turning into gnarly acid. On the flip we have “Jam IV” which goes for a more lo-fi, dusty deep house vibe. A dark and paranoid after-hours jam whose slow burning glory turns into snarling acid euphoria just like the track before it.
Splash Band – The Music Of John Carpenter [ZYX210611]
A few weeks ago, John Carpenter released his first solo-album. Reporting about this release the media used to mention also the Splash Band. Now, the Splash Band is available again. On this CD you can find the 1984 released album “The Music Of John Carpenter” as well as six bonus track. The bonus tracks are the ultra-rare single version of the songs Philadelphia Experiment, Christine, The End, Die Klapperschlange, Starman and Big Trouble In Little China.

Some proper jazz funk here. Ron Trent executive produced EP that reminds of bands like Atmosfear. Inspired by the Jazz Funk elements of UK outfit Atmosfear and the alternative Disco sounds of Dinosaur L, presented here on this EP are five tracks that embrace the energy of live dance music. Boytronic – Bryllyant EP [DE101]
Boytronic is a synthpop group from Hamburg, Germany founded by by Holger Wobker and Peter Sawatzki in 1982. Dark Entries presents a reissue of their most important works. “You” being their biggest hit across Europe, is an openly gay love song, and this openness flows throughout the entire release. Instantly danceable. Extended mix of “You” is previously unreleased on vinyl.

Mr. Flagio – Take A Chance [FNGRM001]
Fonogrammi Particolari is a new record label based in Milan whose main goal is to reissue old school Italo classics in their original form but backed with brand new edits and remixes. The first issue is this essential cover version of Material’s noisy disco classic Take A Chance’ made popular by Mr. Flagio and originally released in 1983 by the Squish label. This cult track appears on the A side in its original form and on the B side in re-edited and reworked form by Fred Ventura and Paolo Gozzetti aka Italoconnection. Enjoy the old and new sound of Mr. Flagio!
Velvet Season & The Hearts Of Gold – El Dorado / Limitless & Free [LS001]
Gerry Rooney (Black Cock) and Joel Martin (Quiet Village) return with two strong cuts on new label Love Shot Records. Opener ”El Dorado” is a curious affair, taking loops from a long-forgotten, disco-era Spanish dance record and turning it into a rolling, late night chugger. Arguably even better is ”Limitless & Free”, which cuts up and rearranges a suitably obscure chunk of stoner funk-rock. Wisely, they emphasize the low-slung groove, rising strings and swirling synthesizers, occasionally utilizing select sections of the original’s sleazy, come-to-bed vocal.
Wall $treet – Trading For Love [MSDN1203]
New EP by Wall $treet from Neud/Neud Photo fame on Mysidian Records. Five tracks including a remix by Vercetti Technicolor. Players, Don Jones (Nico) and Bill Benjamins (Pierre) take time out of their busy schedule trading stocks, authoring a book (Rich Dad, Richer Dad), and contributing to political campaigns to fiddle with expensive electronics in their penthouses atop some of New York’s most expensive real estate.

Third Side – Pandora EP [RST020]
The return of the Third Side trio to Berlin’s foundational Restoration imprint. The Analogue Cops, Lucretio and Marieu, are back on their old moniker with Panorama Bar resident Steffi, with their loose, dusty house-techno hybrids after over a year of hiatus. “Bearing All Gifts” opens the EP with a penetrating techno pulse surrounded by the group’s familiar bundle of circling industrial electronics; the B-side goes more hypnotic thanks to the excellent groove of “Opening The Jar”, and “Elpis” makes for a fine closing tune thanks to its subtle swirls of 303, mid-tempo kicks and intricate bundles of hardware noise.

It’s bleeping and majestic Jeff Mills style techno that’s the flavour on “Exodus”. “J1” by NX1 though is a tribute to? You guessed it: Robert Hood. This time with cyclical and entrancing synth stabs and claps on the kick, and a fine tribute we must say.
