Das Muster – Reaktionszeit EP [SOM034]

DAS MUSTER - Reaktionszeit EP

Marcus Mumm aka Das Muster returns to Solar One Music with the Reaktionszeit EP, the last part of the “Elektronische Werke” series. Authentic analogue action. Stepping up with five icicle grooves, here he flicks from unadulterated, droning paranoia (“Die Suche”) to Vibert-style acid bubbles (“Reaktionszeit”) via twist synth-bent drama (“Abgeschlossener Vorgang”) and Black Strobe proto techno (“Sendezentrale”). “Spaetfolgen” closes the show, taking us back to the icy alienating body funk he kicked off with. Immaculate darkness.

Levon Vincent – Levon Vincent [NS009] FREE DOWNLOAD

Levon Vincent chose to announce the release of his long-await debut album by drip-feeding information on social media. The subsequent meltdown among the online techno community may have been amusing to watch, but is testament to the Berlin-based New Yorker’s impact over the last 10 years. Typically, concrete info has remained thin on the ground aside from the fact it stretches across some four slabs of vinyl and features a homage to Levon’s cat Mona. Just before the physical copies were due for release, Vincent elected to give out the 11 track LP digitally for free so it’s highly likely you know how it sounds already. If you are a true advocate of his output you’ll want this quadruple wax edition! Next-level house and techno dedicated to the “ugly ducklings of the world”!

Theo Parrish / Mike Grant – Moods & Grooves Classics Vol.5 [MG050]

GRANT, Mike/THEO PARRISH - Moods & Grooves Classics V 5

Rounding out this iteration of the Moods & Grooves classic series are two of its best selling releases from one of Detroit’s most prolific producer’s, Theo Parrish, and label head Mike Grant. The Mr. G remix of My Soul, My Spirit nets a pretty penny at the online marketplace so if the steep prices have deterred you, now is the time. Chunky was produced during the time Theo was a leader of Detroit’s raw & dirty house sound. In celebration of the Moods & Grooves’ 50th release it’s being offered on limited coloured vinyl.

Joey Anderson – 1974 [DKMNTL023]

The art of omission is a craft New Jersey native Joey Anderson masters like few others. After releasing an acclaimed debut album in 2014, Anderson returns to the Dekmantel label serving up the signature sound we love him for. With the 1974 EP, he continues his modern day techno odyssey investigating the outskirts of the genre, while focusing on details and unexpected twists. Serving up dense melodic structures, intense chord progressions and unique but relentless drum programming and sounds, Anderson shows that the future of techno is bright, original and full of energy.

VA – Heavy Rotation III [DEA003]

The Heavy Rotation crew is finally back with the follow-up to their successful Blackdisco release. As expected they continue to deliver top shelf disco from all four corners of the world. Bernhard Zichler checks in on Flight 77, a quirky leftfield bomb with a Joy Division infectious bassline. Then Ric Piccolo takes us high up in the Pampas sky with the smoking hot Marruecos. On the flip Albion joins forces with El Chad from Greece for a piece of decadent camp action with a glorious ending. To round it all off, Spacelex delivers a dubbed out psychedelic disco stomper.

DKMD – Sacrificio [GD008]

DKMD is the unholy union of the legendary David Kristian (Psyche / Francesco Clemente / Creme Org) and composer, singer and poet Marie Davidson. The Sacrificio EP is a cosmic soundtrack to vampire rituals, stalker fantasies and abandoned mansions. Heavy disco grooves are matched with Marie Davidson’s ghostly voice, speaking from (the crawl)space to your paranoid mind. Remixes come from Giallo Disco’s Vercetti Technicolor and Antoni Maiovvi.

Zenker Brothers – Immersion [ITLP001]

ZENKER BROTHERS - Immersion

“We are very happy to present our first album on Ilian Tape. At the beginning of 2014 we moved our two seperate bedroom studios into one and soon after started working on the album. All the tracks were made in about 6 months in our new Ilian Tape Space Studio in Munich. The time felt right to focus on this adventure, but without any pressure. Therefore the process became very natural and we felt free to go wherever the vibe led us. Our intention was to create a very personal and honest sound without any limitations or guidelines. It’s a reflection of all the years we’ve been growing up, working, traveling and playing together and it means a lot to us. But enough said music is not supposed to be described with words, so sit back, close your eyes, light one up and turn up the speakers!”

This album is the conclusion of research conducted on theories arguing for us living in a holographic universe. The songs included are parts of a whole that moves the listener towards the idea of understanding music as a universal language that hides within a dimensional leap leading to other universes. Each beat is a part of a primary equation and each song a piece of a second-level puzzle. The complete set is the key that defines the geometry applied to music as the binary expression of geometric mathematics that shapes the vacuum in a space confined by the laws of physics. Taking Detroit Techno as the primary basis for 30drop; this LP intends to develop this type of sound where repetition generates undefined mental structures and pads are the large dimensional containers for vacuum and space. A trip from Detroit’s minimalist, hard, and concise techno that cuts into predefined patterns and creates new boundaries to warm musical spaces in order to accommodate this new way of thinking.

Modular One – Segue One [SISMODONE]

MODULAR ONE aka PATRICE SCOTT/CHRIS MITCHELL - Segue One

Patrice Scott and Chris Mitchell are back at it under their Modular One moniker. Segue One sees the duo pushing forward on their thematic journey into deep, interstellar techno. Adding to the fire, UK deep techno maestro, Aubrey blesses the EP with a remix crafted in his signature textural style.

Dino Sabatini / Edit Select – Multiplo [MZXIV]

Uniting the steely dance floor focus of Tony Scott and Sabatini’s immersive, dub-soaked textures was a masterstroke on Motoguzzi’s part. It’s no surprise then that both versions of “Multiplo” are radically different, or that they both stamp each producer’s unique vision of techno. Edit Select’s take is a heavy affair that never veers into senselessly banging sounds. Instead, he lays down a steely rhythm, hissing percussion and waves of dub-soaked effects. On Sabatini’s version, the dub influence isn’t far away, but comes to the surface in a different manner. Lithe back beats act as the backdrop for multi-layered chords and bleeps that gradually emerge from the depths of Sabatini’s understated but powerful arrangement.

Rio Padice – Looking To The Sky [H1002]

PADICE, Rio - Looking To The Sky

Rio Padice pitches up on Housewax for the Looking To The Sky 12″. The two tracks here explore Padice’s deeper side, but it all still feels vintage in origin, with “Looking To The Sky”, in particularly, coming blessed with the sort of dreamy warmth and undulating low-end shuffle. “Summer Season” is a little brighter and breezier, with twinkling electronics, cheery melodies and drawn-out chords riding a synth bass-heavy late ’80s deep house groove.

Garret David – A New Room [GRAMAPHONE002]

Garrett David presents his sophomore solo release on the Chicago Gramaphone label. Tunnels from his debut release on Stripped & Chewed is also revisited for this dancefloor-aimed EP.

Nothing But Blood – White Of The Eye [COTF005]

‘White of the Eye’ is the first release under “Nothing but Blood” from Scott Fraser, a direct link back to Scott’s earlier 90’s work and sound around the darker realms of techno and harder-edged Chicago house. The EP title refers back to a favourite Donald Cammell film of Scott’s from 88′. ‘White of the Eye’ on the A-side is an 11 minute extended mix of the lead cut. Silent Servant on remix duties delivers an amyl fuelled techno bomb landing somewhere in an 80’s new york basement. Diving deeper on B2 it features Atlanta resident Claire Elise Tippins on vocals.
