Legowelt – Laundromat Of Your Mind [BAKK005]

BAKK presents a new 12inch by Legowelt from the darkness of the Scheveningse Pier. Hypnotic swirling synths, moisty hi-hats and dirty kicks welcome you to the Laundromat Of Your Mind. An EP with both dark peak time techno and beautifully orchestrated symphonies. A four tracker bound to get your stuff clean or to leave the club filthy at the end of the night.

Bulb – Bulb [COTF008]

Crimes of the future are proud to present the first recorings from Bulb. Bulb are Willie Burns, Scott Fraser and Timothy J. Faiplay. Side A combines ghetto techno breaks with something from wayward Kosmiche studio experiments in deepest Germany. On side two dark ambient synthesis and stabbing drums combine to drop you somewhere in a world of psychedelia and cavernous cave dwellings.

Mick Welch – Octaves Of Energy [AMR034E]

Altered Moods Recordings releases its next vinyl EP “Octaves of Energy”. This three-tracker by Mick Welch is a smooth, sultry adventure into the core ethos of AMR music. The “Octaves of Energy” release represents his latest foray into the deepness. “Conscious Field” kicks things off with a tambourine- and high-hat infused beat with rich, dark leads burbling up throughout, interrupted now and then by a wistful bridge with an echoing voice telling you not to be afraid. “Mind Force” is another laid back jam, with a bright, crisp cowbell intertwine with an accouterment of lush pads and silky leads. The final track on the flip side, “Octave 50,” is the deepest cut of the three and also the easiest to work the dance floor with. With its sinewy, filtered pad and bubbly bass line combined with warm, warbling leads, it fits both in the studio and at the club.

Zoovox – Great cats and weak dogs [LSR3001]

Nine track LP of original material from Zoovox . Made with classic sounds of ana-digi machines of yore and filtered through some Norman Whitfield-in- Jamaica 3D psychedelic dub. Music to ride to the depths in your submarine, then climb tropical volcanoes with your gorilla pals.

Modes & Severson – Midnight Exotics [CHANNEL064]

In typical Golf Channel fashion, this collaborative 12″ from Detroit native Todd Modes and Heroes of The Galleon Trade guitarist Mike Severson offers the perfect balance between left-of-centre experimentation, and disco-influenced dancefloor grooves. This is first evident on the baggy, slightly psychedelic stoner disco throb of “Midnight Exotics”, where Severson’s hazy guitar passages and beat boxing style vocal samples ride a trippy, disco-rock groove. Flipside “Disco Desire” pushes the intensity level up several notches. This time, Severson offers up wild, heavy metal-inspired guitar solos, which build in intensity over Modes’ pulsating, italo-influenced backing track.

Jonathan Kusuma – Underpass [LOTR006]

Love On The Rocks imprint is recruiting Indonesian Jonatahn Kusuma who steps up with two killer tracks of the Balearic kind. “A Steins Way” features an infectious synth bass melody backed by emotive strings, FX of the spacey kind and white noise; all that you need! On the flip is “Underpass’ with its low slung groove. A deep funky bassline and some spacey arpeggios are once again all you need to get any party started.

Royer – Day Of EP [MATIMG003]

William Thurman aka Royer delivers his second EP for Material Image. Day Of is an effective – and masterfully detuned – EP containing four killer cuts: “Afre” is a mid-tempo scorcher with wavy chords and dusty drums, “Marien” is more of a straight up house jacker, and “Window Sun” heads into deep house territories thanks to those pulsating beats and subtle melodic twists; Aschof’s dub version for a more full-bodied, faster paced reinterpretation.

Boneless One – Untitled [GYRORIDE001/GYRORIDE002]

Ride The Gyroscope is a new effort from Tabernacle, the UK label known for its ramshackle hardware workouts. The newly established offshoot will launch next month with material from Finnish artist Boneless One. Rotating around the harder edges.

M//R – M//R [LIES048]

M//R aka Billy Werner delivers the goods through 4 stylistically diverse tracks we see him move through techno, electro, slow beat head nod cuts, and psychedelic broken beat UK cut ups. Usually a record of such would be a head spinning genre disaster of ransom note proportions but M//R pulls it off with style and power, each track strongly standing out on it’s own.

Jeff Rushin – A Figment Of His Imagination [MOTE044]

Amsterdam-based producer Jeff Rushin’s Mote Evolver debut opens with “Coda,” which flawlessly builds anticipation as a shivering sequence slowly creeps in and out of the listener’s headspace, accompanied by sharp claps and huge subterranean kicks. “Facing the Truth” combines the same commanding kick sound with busy cymbal shivers. “Enigma” applies Rushin’s calm but forceful approach to what feels like a journey through a forest of translucent filaments. “A Figment of His Imagination” has the EP’s hardest edge, with intense hydraulic pumping and titanium-plated industrial pounding, yet Rushin’s deft programming and arranging skills elevate the track beyond a rote exercise in aggression.

Binny – Mispress EP [MONNOM006]

Liverpool’s Binny debuts on Monnom Black imprint, a label reserved for the darker of techno joints. In apt style, “Mispress” kicks things off in a menacing fashion, blasting out heavy kicks, minimal melodies and rough shots of percussion, followed by the bouncier but nonetheless charged belter that is “Outline”. Over on the flipside, “Quarantine” is a dirty squelcher in the style of Surgeon and Regis, while “Event Horizon” recalls Jeff Mills at his poignant and would sit incredibly well in a set by the man himself.

Setaoc Mass – The M Scale EP [WORKTHEM023]

Another release from Spencer Parker’s Work Them imprint. It’s brutalist peak time techno from Sam Coates. The A side features “Man Ray” a bleak, peak time monster and “Movement’ which channels that old grating, loopy. On the flip is the cyclical madness of “Ulterior Motive” with its mesmerising synth melody and kicks on the clap. Finally “Menifesto” is more restrained with its warped style melody and true roller of a groove.
