Fluxion – Broadwalk Tales Remix EP [ECHOCORD062]

To date Fluxion, AKA Greek dub techno artist Konstantinos Soublis, has released three albums on Danish imprint Echocord, settling in nicely alongside the likes of Luke Hess, Deadbeat, STL, Conforce and XDB. Kenneth Christiansen’s label revisits the most recent Soublis long player, Broadwalk Tales which arrived back in April, for a remix 12″ packing some high calibre names in Deepchord and Joey Anderson. In the hands of the highly regarded Anderson, “You Don’t Know” is transformed from its vaporous origins into a slab of typically deep and jacking Jersey house, while Rod Modell naturally opts for fading resonance and cloudy white noise in his two DeepChord variations of “For You”.

BNJMN – Coil [DSR/E005]

BNJMN steps up to make his debut on Delsin with six tracks of experimental and inventive noise and techno. ‘Coil’ opens his account with screechy, unnerving synths squeals, imposing and throbbing pads and super deep kick drums that come at you from miles below. It’s a hugely textured and spine tingling affair before the ambiance of ‘Berth’ comes rippled with glassy and alien little melodies. ‘Merge’ has turbo charged drums hiding beneath more unsettled synth based noise that sound sernee at the same time as being paranoid. On the flip, ‘And Suddenly’ makes your hairs stand on end with is gothic celestial glow and slithering synth patterns, ‘Blown’ is a damaged and degraded bit of icy, thumping and reverb heavy techno and ‘Azure’ ends on a brain soothing, chilled out ambient high. These are the sort of truly unique and magically textured tracks you would expect from a producer like BNJMN, and mark a fine debut on Delsin.

Marko Furstenberg – Ghosts From The Past [ORN032LP]

Remarkably, it’s been 11 years since Leipzig-based minimal techno producer Marko Furstenberg released his debut album, Gesamtlaufzeit. While he’s been pottering away releasing singles ever since, Ghosts from the Past marks a welcome return to the full-length format. Like its’ predecessor, it delivers a range of smooth, warm, hypnotic and dub-influenced techno missives, high on tactile textures and low on crusty textures. The result is a set rippling with intoxicating grooves, soft-focus rhythms, fluttering chords and woozy late night electronics. Wisely, Furstenberg inserts a number of sublime downtempo interludes to break up the flow a little, with the beautiful “Piano” standing out.

Simone Gatto – Moss EP [VOSNOS003]

Vosnos third release features Simone Gatto along with a remix from the dutch artist Orlando Voorn. On his Moss EP he opens up with The way of life a realy nice off beat dub techno track, which with its subtleness, brings a punch to any techno set be it a starter, mid session or end track. Moss gives you an opportunity to explore minimal house at its best. Simone invited Orlando Voorn to interpret The way of life and good on him for doing so! Orlando stays true to the original, which we praise here at Vosnos, and brings it that anthem feel without getting to obvious.

Salz – Reworks pt. 6 [TELRAE022]

The new Salz release on Telrae kicks off with their rework of the “Call Of Cthulhu” and is dedicated to the early days of Berlin techno and therefore a reminiscence to the period which has been most influential to the duo. The recording is again powerful and impressive and enables one to float on it in perfection. The Salz dub remix of ” Fox In The Box” has always been one of the favorites of theirs and comes here for the first time on vinyl.

Trevor Deep Jr – Tapes EP [NSYDE010]

Finnish deep house champ Trevor Deep Jr takes a break from releasing for Delsin and his own HPTY imprint to drop this delectable set of jams for Nsyde. There is a distinct dubby lilt to Trevor’s output, and that comes through in abundance with the carefully treated chord that pulses through the core of lead track “Merge”. However that track is still operating in the Basic Channel school of dub, while “Blunted” flips the script to a Rhythm & Sound style romp through rootsy steppers rhythms and choice guitar plucks. “Believe Dub” ramps the energy back up with a housey groove around which cavernous synths can echo and throb, making for a damn fine addition to the tradition of dubwise dance music.

DIN/DETTMANN/WIEDEMANN/HENRIK SCHWARZ - Masse Box

May 2013 saw the premiere of the choreography ‘Masse’, a co-production between Berghain and the Staatsballett Berlin. A whole evening of contemporary dance which has been set up by three different choreographers is in need of three different sound producers. The painter Norbert Bisky has been chosen to create the stage design. At the core of the dance night lies a tryptichon made out of pure sound: the music of Henrik Schwarz, Marcel Dettmann & Frank Wiedemann and DIN aka Efdemin & Marcel Fengler was taken as the starting point for developing the choreographies.

Yagya – Sleepygirls [106DSRLP]

Icelandic producer Yagya release his fifth album, Sleepygirls, on Dutch label Delsin. It’s a deep, spacious and dubbed out affair that stays locked at a pleasingly sedentary tempo throughout. The album is a fine fusion of tropes from Yagya’s earlier albums, features jazz instrumentalists that improvise beautiful melodies over monotonic, almost drone-like, techno beats and also uses live recordings of Japanese vocals, saxophone and guitar to counter the repetitiveness of the rhythms. Right from the rolling bliss of the opener, you’re suspended in a womb like pillow of sound that is soft, warm and serenely beautiful. As tracks roll on, the pace stays the same but themes vary from upright and summery to more elongated and insular. This is natural, organic dub that is a delight and a pleasure to listen to.

“I wanted to create an album that’s atmospheric, repetitive, and easy to listen to over and over again. Something that works well in the background (e.g. when concentrating on work), as well as up close in a big sound system. I also wanted to learn how to make my music sound better than before, since I’m a huge sound-nerd, so that was a part of the goal for me personally.”

VA – Field Records – Collection [FCD001]

Field Records is to release a 2CD compilation of music from the labels artists old and new entitled simply, Collection. The imprint keeps up the Dutch tradition of releasing deep, Detroit-inspired electronic music with high-class contributions from various artists. Built on minimalism and modesty, the boutique label has expanded into a consortium for quality since first emerging in 2008. Artists such as Conforce, Delta Funktionen, DJ Sprinkles, Steffi, Mark Du Mosch and many other assured talents have all appeared on the label before now with sounds that range from deep, classically include house to more rough edged and raw techno. It’s much the same case on this expansive new two CD release, which will also be offered up as 3 x vinyl sampler. Across both CDs, established artists rub shoulders with more recently emerging talents and plenty of coherent and creative ground is covered in the exclusive new tracks. Things start off with the grainy ambiance of Sons Of Melancholia’s ‘Theme From The Lake’ before the likes of Delsin’s Unbroken Dub serves up a crawling bit od dubbed out techno, Acronym explores finely planed techno minimalism and Polar Inertia gets all heady and industrial on their ‘Sonic Outlaws’ contribution. Disc 2 starts off with lumpy ambiance before evolving through broken beat pieces, streamlined and stripped back techno and frazzled acid workouts. As a listening experience from start to finish this compilation works perfectly, too, because it never repeats the same trick. Featuring an exquisite selection of tracks by talented artists as well as contemporary favourites, Collection functions as a blueprint of the sound of the Field records label, delving into new geographical and musical territory in style.

He’s currently based in Brooklyn, where he co-runs Rote Productions, a company that releases music, graphic works, video compositions, and photography, and takes a strong stance against the concept of intellectual property. Irdel’s early work consisted of soundscapes, noise, and power electronics. Now, he’s trying his hand at techno, with incredible results. “Pressure Chant” has immense energy and a Surgeon-like shuffle. “Private Transgressions” juxtaposes a dark, cinematic mood with a dubby bass line and synth stabs.
