FLORENCE FOSTER FAN CLUB - Songs From The Lab

FFFC (Florence Foster Fan Club) are no strangers in our world of electronic music. Besides releases on their own the musicians behind this project are involved in numerous other projects like Sumerian Fleet, Zarkoff and Le Chocolat Noir. Recently they started operating out of an abandoned factory situated behind the (former) iron curtain. At this place they have collected all their synthesizers and started jamming. This 12” EP is a selection from recordings from these sessions.

Monocorpse – Ceremonie Caille [ET042/GOOILAND021]

Hailing from Holland, Monocorpse serves dark electronix/techno. Extremely minimal, raw and primitive in sound and the tracks are ritual and occult in orientation and mood. Think of the previous Gooiland Elektro releases by Drvg Cvltvre and Ekman but stripped down to the essence and pitch black.

FOQL – Hypatia [ET041/GOOILAND020]

FOQL belongs to the same Polish electronic music collective as Marburg, but the sound of this project is truly different. Hypatia EP is delicate and even fragile maybe… It has the ritual feeling like some of the music by Coil has, and fuses ambient, electronix and techno in the same way Kobosil can do. In short, this is a record for well informed and well educated music lovers.

The Exaltics – The Truth (Remixes) [SOM035]

Solar One Music presents the follow up to The Exaltics retrospective “The Truth 2008 – 2013” released early this year. Five of The Exaltics best tracks are revisit by  ERP, Gosub, Dopplereffekt, Objekt, and Ultradyne. On the A side, E.R.P. aka Convextion turns the opener “My Language” into an emotive electro rework where sweet drums combine to soft synth layers. Followed by Ultradyne’s disturbing “Compressed Thoughts” remix, expect experimental electro beats and distorted modulations straight from Detroit. On the flipside, a SOM regular signature, Gosub injects on “IMOEH” a serious dose of electrofunk vibes. His classy remix gives a breath of fresh air while “Journey To Jupiter” reworked by Objekt propels you in orbit after an epic trip though space. Merging electro beats to groovy lines and contemporary synths colors, Dopplereffekt keeps the pressure: “Instinct” signs here a masterly conclusion to the EP.

Arcanoid / Diffuse Arc – La Colera De Los Debiles [OD001]

New label Odio emerge with a real statement of intent for their debut release which finds Diffuse Arc and Arcanoid sharing sides on a 12″ with some excellent sleeve art. Diffuse Arc handles the A side with eleven minute modular epic “Acto 1 Origen” which swells from its initial almost-silence into a far sighted monster that will have you pulling the needle back time and time again. Semantica and Tabernacle affiliate Arcanoid provides two tracks with “Acto 2 Esencia Del Drama” a classicist take on Drexciyan electro complemented by the more abstract sounds of “Acto 3 Conclusion”.

DMX Krew – Zsagi [ZSAGI]

After landing his malfunctioning PX-4000 on the purple planet, Captain DMX steps out of the smoldering cockpit. After barely setting foot on the dusty landscape, the Captain is startled by deep thudding from over the hills. Dragging his oxygen pack with one hand and his atomizer with the other, he sets off in search of the other-wordly din. Over the hill his pupils adjust to the stroboscopic lightning and below him lies a sea of strange creatures moving together as one body. A cosmic sermon takes place under the three suns in the sky, mechanical and stuttered frequencies set a manic pace and drive the dark creatures back and forth. Captain DMX sighs a heavy breath and starts to descend into the fray….

Alessandro Cortini – Forse 3 [IMPREC418]

Most pieces consist of a repeating chord progression, where the real change happens at a spectral/dynamic level, as opposed to the harmonic/chordal one. I believe that the former are just as effective as the latter, in the sense that the sonic presentation (distortion , filtering, wave shaping, etc) are just as expressive as a chord change or chord type, and often reinforce said chord progressions.

Bézier – Telomeres [DE097]

Analogue synthesizer enthusiast Bezier first surfaced on Dark Entries in 2012, delivering the hard-wired retro-futurist fantasy Ensconced. Two years on, he’s finally ready to release the follow-up, the similarly sharp and sci-fi themed Telemores. As with his previous output, the influences are obvious – think Radiophonic Workshop, electro, minimal, new wave and Italo-disco – but he smartly steers clear of pastiche and empty revivalism. Instead, we’re treated to a range of dancefloor-friendly instrumental cuts, cyborg jams, and intoxicating robot rinse-outs. Closer “Fukushima”, in which he doffs a cap to the synthesized horror-disco of John Carpenter, is particularly potent.
