Peter Van Hoesen – Dekmantel Podcast 076

Dekmantel is adding a new series to their label called UFO. Following the same-titled stage on the annual summer festival in Amsterdam, the UFO releases focus on the same sound spectrum, aphotic, experimental and futuristic techno, electro and electronica. Kicking off the DKMNTL UFO series is esoteric techno stalwart Peter van Hoesen. The Berlin-based Belgian DJ and producer has attracted a dedicated following for his signature sound of psychedelic and perscussion driven productions, and will continue to do so thanks to his distinctive take on how to inaugurate our new platform. From dystopian kinetic techno (‘Cartesian Taiko’) to an anarchic and dub heavy break beat jam (‘Duet Dub’), and from the rolling and hypnotic peak-time intensifier (‘P2ME’) to synth-heavy seductive high tech soul (‘Qaudra’): Van Hoesen casually wallops you round the back of the head with gargantuan bass vibes.

The last instalment of the ‘Stealth’ vinyls focuses on the productions of the Time To Express founder. Reflecting the themes of the series, Van Hoesen offers his own vision of hypnotic techno on ‘Shadows & Concern’, a powerful and expansive piece. The series is completed in appropriate fashion with ‘Unicorn’, an emotive track that displays Van Hoesen’s more melodic side.

The Stealth triple vinyl series presents six tracks taken from Peter Van Hoesen’s ‘Stealth’ mix compilation. The same philosophy is carried across: it marries Peter’s music with the sounds he is influenced by. The result is a powerful selection of vibrant techno, with a warm, almost spiritual, feel to it. Both Donato Dozzy and Neel have appeared individually on Time to Express before, here they appear for the first time together as Voices From the Lake. The Italian duo offer more evidence of their distinctive brand of hypnotic techno with ‘Zulu Vortex’, a spiralling percussive workout. This is paired with a track from Wata Igarashi, a rising Japanese DJ and producer. ‘Night’ is a glowing, radiant piece of techno that has become a regular feature in Peter Van Hoesen’s recent DJ sets.

Chris Madak (aka Bee Mask) epitomizes the dissolution of distinctions between music for the mind and the body. His stunning live performance of ‘Headband’ at the 2014 Labyrinth festival left Van Hoesen dazed and enthralled. This was the origin of the remix found here, which perfectly conveys the themes of ‘Stealth’. The remix is complemented by one of Van Hoesen’s own productions, the epic ‘Breach’.

These Ancestral Bones – title of the second release of the Berlin-based label Ownlife. It features two original tracks of Leiras and a remix by one of the key-names in the electronic music-scene, the multifaceted Peter Van Hoesen.

The Call & Response EP features five brand new tracks forged in Van Hoesen’s Berlin studio during June and July 2014. It marks a further development of the Belgian producer’s sound, combining solid dancefloor material with highly personal leftfield techno.

Mathew Jonson & The Mole, Peter Van Hoesen and Blue Hour deliver three of the album tracks in remix form.

Time To Express presents its first release of 2014 with a stunning appearance by London-based Italian Marco Shuttle. Sing Like A Bird is a gorgeous, hypnotic techno anthem. Stretched out over almost 12 minutes, the track’s lean groove teams up with a stunning vocal line. The listener is taken by the hand, slowly directed towards a high-flying crescendo. Peter Van Hoesen’s remix takes the existing framework of the original and adds a dose of psychedelica to it. His interpretation emphasizes the trancy, hypnotic aspect of Marco’s track. Several synth lines take turns twisting and shifting in and out of the mix, leading up towards a great buildup.

Deep advanced techno by Time 2 Express label head, Peter van Hoesen. This time 2 cool tracks on fellow Belgium label Curle records.

New release by Exercise One on Exone, featuring two original tracks and remixes by Peter van Hoesen and Donato Dozzy.
Here is the third and final part of my 2013 review, featuring my favorite albums released last year. In the first part of the review, the preferences of hipodrome followers are shown, according to the number of click and stars. In the second part, I presented some of my favorite events and performances from last year.

Now here it comes the serious business. Because there are so many good albums and different genders, I took the same approach as in the 2012’s review.
The list is covering all the genders that I like and post on The Hipodrome Of Music, so I came up with no more than 20 gender lists, going from house to techno, disco and funk to electro and new wave …
Here we go.
The second part of my review of 2013 is dedicated to the best events and performances I attended this year. Part 1 includes the preferences of the hipodrome blog’s followers.

One year on from ‘Perceiver’, Peter Van Hoesen presents his first live album, documenting his performance during the Time To Express label night at Tresor on July 19th 2013. Armed with three synths, a drum machine, two iPads and some outboard effects, he covers a brace of new material woven with recent releases in typically disciplined and unrelenting PvH style, capturing his highly efficient energy transfer and breathless momentum in full effect and perhaps providing better context for his music than any studio album could.

The ‘Receiver’ series presents six remixes of tracks from Peter Van Hoesen’s acclaimed ‘Perceiver’ album. The third Receiver release teams up Marcel Fengler with Italian producer Neel. Fengler brings his trademark Berlin sound to the table, craftly reworking Inspection In Solitude. He strips down the original and builds it from the ground up, using shuffling percussion and an insistent melody. Time to jack. Neel’s remix brings a deep and dark tunnel to mind. It builds and builds and builds until the original loop from Objects From The Past appears out of the fog, bringing this stunning remix to an epic end.

The ‘Receiver’ series presents six remixes of tracks from Peter Van Hoesen’s acclaimed ‘Perceiver’ album. The second Receiver release presents two solid interpretations by Scuba’s SCB alter ego and [Phase]. SCB brings out the groove on his edit of ‘Seven, Green and Black’, giving priority to the warm square bass sound of the original. [Phase] takes no prisoners with his tough as nails rework of To Alter A Vector.
