Hardrock Striker – Supreme Striker I [WAR4]

The Skylax affiliated Warehouse Classics series has always taken an authentically old-fashioned approach to the humble re-edit, serving up chopped and looped versions inspired by the loose, drum-machine heavy reworks of original Chicago house masters such as Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles. This fourth volume, the first from label boss Hardrock Striker, continues in this vein. Amongst the four tracks you’ll find a slamming early house gem (the clean kick drums, metallic hits and chiming melodies of “Mano a Mano”), a brilliantly teasted and tweaked Ready for the World revision (“Shyla”, where the French producer builds the drums before dropping into the vocals), and what sounds like a Paul Weller/Jam/Style Council rework (the undulating Balearic funk of “Precious Thang”).

Andreas Gehm aka Elec Pt.1 – Voodoo Wolf [CCC514]

Six nu-jack/acid trax by the Gehm. Voodoo Wolf features a sextet of stripped-back machine jams, which range from the spooky acid house of “Warming To The Galaxy” and ragging, Steve Poindexter-meets-Phuture wildness of “If I Was”, to the riotous, Dancemania-ish ghetto-house revelry of “Clap Your Hands” and the Larry Heard-ish melancholia of “77-88”.

Jason Grove – Skylax [LAX137]

The producer that keeps diggers guessing is back on Skylax with a double pack of refined house grooves named in honour of the label that has borne his music thus far. Wherever and whenever this music appeared, there’s no arguing with the simple beauty of a cut like “John Blue” with its tripped out organ line and globulous pad, or “Rawkicks 2” in all its lounged-out grooving glory. There’s a lot of space allowed for soul samples and loose-fit beatdown drums, moving this release away from a strictly dancefloor release into a wider headspace. With his delicate touch and unfussy delivery, Jason Grove will undoubtedly be worming his way into even more heads thanks to this LP.

Sir Leon Greg – Warehouse Classics #3 [WAR003]

Sir Leon Greg (another incarnation of Perseus Traxx) jams out then reinforces some edits of forgotten classics with a raw & personal analogue treatment for a devastating full effect on the dance floor, that is a far cry from the proliferation of over-produced squeaky-clean software edits. These are basic, raw ideas thrown down quickly and capturing the energy on 1/4” tape.

This alone didn’t confirm the listeners of his music. It was also due to the fact that he presents a real and sincere vibe and is open to new and developing sounds World-Wide.

Perseus Traxx – Raw Cuts [SUIT003]

Stay Underground, It Pays with the 3rd release from Perseus Traxx. The analog man is back with some killer tracks, deep & jacking chicago sounds with haunting pads, big basselines & some classic TR 707 – 909 drum machines. The title track ‘Hindsight’ is a raw bumpy cut with a sneaky bassline going all along with rolling claps & rims. Influenced by all the best 80’s trax records releases, it’s a late night masterpiece of minimalistic electronic sounds. The 4 other tracks ‘Late night calls’, ‘A slave to feelings’, ‘How the future lies’ & the crazy ‘wrangle’ are clearly working in the same movement.

After three fruitful years of existence and daily careful surveillance of the electronic music scene, I’ve decided, for the first time, to draw a line and make a review of the year that is just closing.

I will make the review in two parts, the first is dedicated to our followers and their choices from this years. So, I will make a list with the most successful post on my blog, the releases that gathered the most likes and clicks in 2012 for our visitors. The second part of the review, will include my own picks and I will present some of my favorite albums of different genders. Also I will make a review of the best parties and acts I’ve attended this year.

The 7th release on Skylax Records’ sub label Wax Classics with 4 fantastic trax done by Adryiano. He’s a  “music lover and vinyl enthusiast” from Cologne Germany rooted somewhere in between the 90s house sub-genres. Pretty much into vintage gear when it comes to productions using 90s hardware like the MPC 2000xl. This Ep is clearly made for the ‘new jerseyish’ deep house heads. Old scool vibe with some serious banging kicks and an incredible groove.
