In 2012, Army of God released a cult cut of cold wave: “Salvation”. This was the only EP by the partnership of Aroy Dee and Miss Jagroe, the only EP until now that is. Army of God are back, after more than a decade the duo return with Endless Skies. Analogue warmth is sliced by surgical synth stabs and bittersweet strings, Jagroe’s unmistakable voice echoes into the distance with the beseeching mantra of “until the music dies”. Aroy Dee’s edit of the title piece fortifies drums for the floor, emotion is further stripped from the already deadpan lyrics as melodies bleed into distorted wonder. The black streak that characterises Army of God turns a shade darker for the flip. A throbbing bass is inked by off-kilter keys, clusters of claps piercing the thicket of static and chilling chorus of “Fear the Night”. Venturing ever deeper into the night, the darker version will set speaker cones shaking and shivering. Juddering and trembling, basslines are bolstered with vocals invoking the very darkest regions of the dancefloor.
May 9 to 12 it is that time of the year again: The Intergalactic FM Festival of 2024 in The Hague. Mad DJ and Live action @ PIP and Panama Racing Club with about 100 artists standing by to rock the place.
Bordello A Parigi’s latest release brings together two heavyweights for something particularly special. Aroy Dee, founder of M>O>S Recordings, has been at the coalface of machine music for more than twenty years; Marco Antonio Spaventi, an exceptional composer with over a decade’s experience. The pair offered the tear-stained vocoder ballad of “Desire” two years back, now they return for “Sorrow.” Crisp rhythms and considered synth scales form the bedrock from which J.C.’s emotion wrung lyrics ensnare. A tale of lovelorn pain, a psychological journey of lamentations and mistakes, the track adopts the heartache of wave romance and contrasts it with clean musical lines. The “Space Dub” of the flip transforms those powerful lyrics to give space for brightness to enter. Cascading chords and sunlight break through as arpeggio quivers introduce vocoder vocals in this superb re-interpretation that balances warmth with frigid shades.

When I started it, all I had in mind was that I wanted to put out the best music that was available to me and that I’ll follow wherever it’ll take me. I’m very grateful to all the people that have been part of this journey and have trusted me with their art, without them there was no way this could have happened. All of them were previously released on vinyl-only between 2011-2021 so now you can enjoy them digitally as well. This is the first selection of recordings from Intergalactic FM Streaming Festival 2021, which took part at the end of May. This was is just a part of of the recordings that were run continuously for more than a week.

For COS_MOS’s next trick they serve up a special 12” that features a brand new single from M>O>S super group R-A-G, also known as Ma Spaventi, Aroy Dee and G-String. It comes backed with a re-release of one of the key tracks of the previously released Crystal Maze album on aDepth Audio. A fierce and full 45rpm re-cut of ‘Dr Claw’ that has been a secret weapon of Aroy Dee for many years. It’s a raw cosmic adventure, with warm solar winds blowing over prickly drums. Twisted bass and knotted pads wrap round the groove as a detuned lead synth heads into a Legowelt-ish future. ‘Larry Venom’, stirs things up with a deconstructed, off kilter mix of beeps and drones with marching drums adding to the feeling that this is a robot party in meltdown.
Marco Spaventi and M>O>S label head Aroy Dee link up for another of their intriguing collaborations. Their latest offers another vital mix of raw house and ambient. Opener ‘The Way We Love’ features typically rough, blistered drums and sci-fi synths, but this time with a heavenly vocal and uplifting chords up top that tug on your heart strings. An ambient reprise of the same track is a perfect excuse to kick back and get lost in your own thoughts. ‘The Way We Move’ then takes a long view, with far-gazing Detroit pads and mid tempo drums getting you deep into a dreamy groove that is wide open and expansive. Last of all, Marco remixes this one on his own and flips it into something that is even more melodic, with circling pads and a musical bassline all making for a beautiful piece of timeless house music.
Dutch-born German-raised Roger van Lunteren makes his debut on SoHaSo. Rosa Dos Ventos EP is a four-track story that oozes retro vibes and nostalgia for a past that never seems to have existed. Utilizing raw 80’s analog synths and humanoid acid lines he sets atmospheres that remind of Lynchian dreamscapes. It comes with a remix from Aroy Dee.
The R-A-G trio aka Dutch producers Ma Spaventi, G-String & Aroy Dee deliver three raw acid-jams with Aroy on the couch working the mic. The lyrics of Dreadfully Nervous are based on a Edgar Allan Poe story. ‘Dreadfully Nervous (Aryd’s Acid Mix)’ is a gurgling brew of squelchy acid with dark vocals and pinging cowbells pulling you in all directions. Coarse claps and ever more wild synths encourage you to cut loose and make for another timeless cut. ‘Dreadfully Stoned’ is more stripped back, with a rubbery arpeggiated synth the main hook over subtle, supple drums. Those dark spoken word vocals are back again and the whole thing is freaky and unsettling as a result. Last of all is the bright and glistening ‘No Soul’ with metal hits and claps and prickly acid all bursting out of dusty Chicago drums. It’s raw and sure to fire the synapses just like R-A-G productions always do.
