Ma Spaventi – The Jungle / Insanity [MOSDEEP014]

SPAVENTI, Ma - The Jungle

Marco Antonio Spaventi returns on MOS with two tracks. ‘Insanity’ is a mad melange of fizzing electronics, ticking cowbells and swirling atmospheres all pinned to a chugging deep house beat. Raw drum fills and squelchy modulated synth sounds fill nearly every gap, taking you to a place as intense you could imagine for the duration. On the flip, Spaventi’s lo-fi aesthetic gets even more fucked up as he delves deep into the recess of house music with ‘The Jungle’. Crunchy hits, echoing hi hats and a tightly coiled melody all race along next to each other with a slapping drum combination keeping energy levels up down below. Raw and brash yet totally beguiling, it might be some of his best work yet on the ever excellent MOS Deep.

Ksoul & Muteoscillator – Aphrology EP [MOSDEEP013]

KSOUL/MUTEOSCILLATOR - Aphrology

MOS Deep returns with a new EP from Italians Ksoul & Muteoscillator. ‘Criminology’ comes in two parts on the a-side: the first is a fizzing, almost impenetrable network of analogue lines with acid buried deep below sharp percussion and behind a mysterious little melody phrase, whilst the second features a different sort of acid: it’s brighter and seems to twist and turn with a life of its own. The b-side is ‘Aphrology’ as edited by Aroy himself. The underlying vibe here is house, though a squealing world of ticking machines, squirming synths and jangling percussive rhythms make it a heady and intense listen. Finally, the same track appears in its original form where tumbling drums, bleeding acid and a steppers rhythm join the dots between many different worlds: the heady results are sure to make dancefloors go cerrrrazy.

Innerspace Halflife – Wind / Phazzled [MOSDEEP012]

INNERSPACE HALFLIFE - Wind

Americans Hakim Murphy and Ike Release are two Chicago house addicts who produce solo and as a duo under the name Innerspace Halflife. Here they turn up on one of Europe’s finest deep house labels in MOS Deep with a two-track 10” vinyl release. “Wind” is the a-side the pair turn in – a main room house banger with icy hi hats dangling above a forceful acid bassline that repeats over and over as thin pads sing about above and have you look to the future. It’s wholly analogue as you’d expect, and as atmospheric as it is fierce. Ike Release goes solo on the flip with “Phazzled”, a much more laid back deep house jaunt with long legged, rubbery kicks and all sorts of busy sci-fi FX filling in the gaps. The harmonic chords add plenty of warmth and invite you to get lost in their midst – classicist house with a future perspective.

D’Marc Cantu – A New World [MOSLP001]

D'MARC CANTU - A New World

Not long after his debut full length, Michigan resident D’Marc Cantu serves up his next album on the ever-excellent MOS Recordings. Though essentially a house and techno producer, American Cantu often goes further than most, calling on a world of influences to ensure his jacking productions are as far away from standard as possible, yet still do damage on the right dancefloors as have previous EPs on this label, Nation and Crème Organization. His latest offering, A New World, aims to capture, detail and relay many different stories from within the re-born city of Detroit. Across the course of eight tracks, many different moods and styles are explored from dark and abstract to more synth lead and serene. There are plenty of squelchy acid lines and frantic percussive workouts, but so too are there pockets of slower, deeper, dubbier introspection that speak of mystery and intrigue as does the city of Detroit itself.

Chicago Shags – The Family Album [MOS017]

CHICAGO SHAGS aka LEGOWELT - The Family Album

Brian ‘Orgue Electronique’ Schijf and Danny ‘Legowelt’ Wolfers return with their project Chicago Shags on the ever-excellent MOS Recordings. The four track EP starts with ‘Ponderosa’; a forward looking, cosmic surfing house cut wired with plenty of smooth electronics and pure jacking energy, before ‘Pancake Breakfast’ glistens and glints just as much with its firefly synth lines, gurgling baseline and sweet, pixelated melodies. ‘Firetruck Sunday’ is more dense and edgy, never resting in one place for more than a single beat, with chattery drums and claps offset by a rounded, smoothed but acidy bassline. Finally, ‘To The Westfield’ surges and soars through more sci-fi universes as a house groove busies itself below.

R-A-G – Black Rain EP [MOSDEEP011]

RAG - Black Rain EP

MOS Deep presents Black Rain EP, the return to the label for R-A-G aka Aroy himself, G-String and Marco Spaventi. Opening with ‘Fog’ the deep vibe is set immediately. Crispy snares, a chugging groove and plenty of eerie sonics swirl around into something with a keen sense of foreboding. The titular track then gets all Chicago with its busy claps and nagging synth lines. The mood is a sombre one for those creepy back room sets and the analogue machinery used to make it gives a trademark warm and fuzzy feel to proceedings. The EP closes with a reprise of ‘Black Rain’. This beat-less rework deals in ambient synthscapes that drag you into their fold and never let you go.

San Proper / Aroy Dee – Perfume [MOS016]

SAN PROPER/AROY DEE - Perfume

Aroy Dee and San Proper craft a beautiful four track EP entitled “Perfume” for M>O>S. An EP of more mind-melting or heart warming house sounds you are unlikely to hear because Aroy Dee and his MOS are the true masters of future facing, retro-referencing house music.

Ma Spaventi / Aroy Dee – Wrecking / Mr. Floyd [MOSDEEP010]

SPAVENTI, Ma/AROY DEE - Wrecking

To celebrate his MOS Deep sub label reaching its tenth release, boss man Aroy Dee has teamed up in the studio with Doctor Spaventi for the label’s next release. Marco Spaventi’s “Wrecking” is a blisteringly raw house construction with ripping synth lines, delicate hi-hats and slow, crawling kick drums building up to an incendiary, Chicago referencing peak where pinging cow bells shooting in all directions. On the flip, Aroy builds in layers. His “Mr Floyd” is all muted synth growls, clattering percussion and blissful pads. It’s a tortured deep house track that challenges you before really soothing you, but once the inner beauty is revealed; it really has you under an enchanting spell.

The Poetic Painter M – Marie’s Transcendance [MOSDEEP009]

POETIC PAINTER M, The - Marie's Transcendence

Traxx aka Melvin Oliphant III returs to MOS Deep with a stunning solo-project. Under his The Poetic Painter M pseudonym he serves up ‘Marie’s Transcendance’ backed-up by two reworks from compadre Sean Hernandez aka Chicago Skyway and label owner Aroy Dee. ‘Marie’s Transcendance’ is a frenetic yet hypnotizing house track that echoes memories of downpitched Newbeat material and the hooky coldness of new wave. Melvin, though, re-defines rather than regurgitates these influences and re-launches them into a dark and moody acid-flecked future. Chicago Skyway reworks it into a deep, emotional just as acid-version which seems to float into eternity as solid 808-beat programming plays out busily behind. Aroy Dee edits a second rework of “Marie’s”, creating a simple but highly effective and bouncing track that’s carried along by a psychedelic, out-of-this-world bass line.

D’Marc Cantu – How Are We Doing? EP [MOSDEEP008]

D'MARC CANTU - How Are We Doing?

Next up in the 10” series on MOS_deep another heavy 2-tracker of D’Marc Cantu, which will be followed by a (mini)-album later this year. The opening track is a fierce Chicago-styled banger kicking off with an extremely solid and frantic bassline while D’Marc’s low-pitched voice asks us “How Are We Doing?”. “A Second Earth” is a laid-back and emotional retro-futuristic techno track overflowing with sadness and melancholy, echoing the sounds of the artificial-intelligence era.

Chicago Skyway & Dcook – Lager EP [MOS_DEEP_007]

CHICAGO SKYWAY/DCOOK - Lager EP (Front Cover)

Chicago Skyway is back on MOS deep with another epic release, ranging from melodic deepness to wild-jackin’ dance floor-madness. The Lager EP kicks off with Bad Driver, a raw and solid Chicago-banger with an irresistible driving bass-line, rattling beats and atmospheric strings. For Lager Nord on the flipside Chicago Skyway teams up with his compadre Dcook, delivering an emotional and dreamy classical Detroit Techno influenced track. Lager is reworked by Steven Tang, another rising star in Chicago’s contemporary electronic-music scene, known for his Obsolete Technology imprint and his Verged Sessions on Aestatic Audio. Steven’s Obsolete Technology Remix focuses on lush orchestrated strings and deep synths flowing over a massive foundation of thumping beats.

DEE, Aroy - Beauty & Life

Label boss Aroy Dee signs for his already 8th release on his own MOS Recordings label. The track ‘Beauty’ reminds his label’s first release, a basic dreamy melodic house track. On the b-side we find man of the moment Rabih Beaini aka Morphosis dropping a heavy remix. Hot on the heels of his praised ‘What Have We Learned’-album takes his dark dusty ‘Cabinet’-remix all things in perspective.

Next up in the 10” series on M>O>S Deep is a solo-project of D’Marc Cantu. D’ Marc delivers two surprisingly melodic, sexy and hypnotizing house tracks. “Set Free” opens with a hard-hitting flanged bass-sound and a devastating kick and slowly evolves into a dreamy and atmospheric track full of mystery. “Tonight” is a hypnotic and haunting latenight-dancefloor track, combining long stretched melodic stabs, an ultra-deep bassline and D’ Marc’s whispering vocals taking you down deep in the uncanny and eery underworld of his soul.

MORPHOSIS - What Have We Learned

The next full length from Delsin, entitled “What Have We Learned” from the Lebanese-born producer Morphosis aka Ra.H aka Rabih Beaini, is co-released on his own Morphine Records, as well as by close associate M>O>S. Influences range from Krautrock via New Wave but, importantly, all are digested by Morphosis before being re-imagined as something wholly fresh and original which, in turn, stands up well to both dancefloor deployment and intense home listening.

2 AM/FM - Desolate Cities

After their collaboration with Traxx on a previous MOS-release, James T. Cotton and D’Marc Cantu team up as 2AM/FM for more serious Chicago House roughness. ‘Desolate Cities’ has all ingredients we love to hear in proper dark house track, this very reminds us to the best works by Phuture. ‘Give This World’ goes more on the melodic tip, and reminds to classic tracks by Virgo, Ron Trent and G-Strings.
