Voices From The Lake – Velo Di Maya [BK003]

Excellent techno gear on Bunker New York. Voices From The Lake are Donato Dozzy and Neel, a duo that has redefined techno in both the live arena and the album format. In July of 2012, Voices From The Lake came from Rome to Brooklyn to present a special night of music at The Bunker in the back room of Public Assembly. This was one of the greatest nights of music in the history of The Bunker. Their tremendous sixhour set consisted of two separate live sets, and back-to-back DJ sets. None of the music from the either of the hour-long live sets had been released, so the label immediately got on them about their plans for the tracks. They agreed on their favorite segments, and they produced live studio tracks based on those excerpts. A few Voices From The Lake tracks have come out since the album, but this is their first full release since 2012.

Donato Dozzy & Nuel – The Aquaplano Sessions [SP033]

https://i0.wp.com/imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS518539-01A-MED.jpg

When the Aquaplano records were first released in 2008 and 2009 they were distinctly out of step with the way techno appeared to be heading. The minimal detour was reaching its logical endpoint, and producers were returning to the 1990s for inspiration, with Berghain and Sandwell District at the vanguard of a new techno movement. What the Aquaplano sessions shared in common were slower BPMs and finding inspiration in the 1990s, but there they parted ways. The influences these Italians were drawing on were rather different, returning to tribal rhythms and ambient textures to sketch out a much more heady, psychedelic form of techno. The results were a perfect balance of hypnotic beats and swirling atmosphere geared for a broken-in dancefloor or the hazy afterhours. Across these two records Dozzy and Nuel would go a long way towards creating the template for a brand of deep, atmospheric techno that has become much more prominent in the years since. And while many have sought to imitate this sound, few – if any – have matched what first emerged from the Aquaplano sessions. After only being available in a very limited run, it is fitting that the sonic blueprints provided by Dozzy and Nuel are now available again – and much more widely – at a time when their influence is as strong as it has ever been.

Hipodrome’s 2013 Review (Part 3 of 3)

Here is the third and final part of my 2013 review, featuring my favorite albums released last year. In the first part of the review, the preferences of hipodrome followers are shown, according to the number of click and stars. In the second part, I presented some of my favorite events and performances from last year.

http://fmacskasy.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/2013.jpg?w=602&h=314

Now here it comes the serious business. Because there are so many good albums and different genders, I took the same approach as in the 2012’s review.

The list is covering all the genders that I like and post on The Hipodrome Of Music, so I came up with no more than 20 gender lists, going from house to techno, disco and funk to electro and new wave …

Here we go.

Dino Sabatini meets Donato Dozzy – Journey Back To Ithaca [OUTIS004]

Dino Sabatini: “It has always been one of my dreams reunite the old group of friends I met in the basement of Rome and with whom I have begun the journey towards this adventure. Today I am very happy to present this work made in collaboration with one of my closest friends and with whom I shared for long time studios, music, ideas, techniques and the mutual love for a good Italian cuisine. I sincerely believe that Donato Dozzy does not need any introduction.”

Donato Dozzy – Plays Bee Mask [SP029BLACK]

https://i0.wp.com/imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS499842-01A-MED.jpg

The prospect of Donato Dozzy reworking Bee Mask for the Spectrum Spool label is a mouth watering one and this double LP collection, entitled straightforwardly enough Donato Dozzy Plays Bee Mask more than lives up to it’s billing. Originally commissioned to turn in a remix of Bee Mask’s “Vaporware” track from last year’s LP for Room 40, Dozzy apparently felt the track’s inherent beauty merited more than just the one and sent over seven! This decision has resulted in a superb collection of reimaginations from the Voices Of The Lake producer, ranging from calming moments of serenity to bleepish, deep techno explorations.

Peter van Hoesen – Receiver 1/3 [T2XS101]

The ‘Receiver’ series presents six remixes of tracks from Peter Van Hoesen’s acclaimed ‘Perceiver’ album. The first Receiver release sees Donato Dozzy reworking Attribute 39. The Italian maestro steers the original into a blissfull, emotional domain. It is the perfect recipe for coming down after a long night on the dancefloor. Sigha also chooses an atmospheric approach to enhance the original of ‘Attack On The Reality Princicple’. He injects crackling electricity into the track, supported by a huge booming kick.

Rabih Beaini ‎– Albidaya [END07]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS489965-01A-MED.jpg

Exploratory Lebanese imprint Annihaya presents a stunning debut album opus by Rabih Beaini aka Morphosis under his birth name. As Rabih was born in Lebanon it is fitting he shares ‘Albidaya’ – meaning “The Beginning” in Arabic – with a label from his home country, who provide acute context for its mixture of electronics, psych rock, folk and jazz. Impressively it was mostly recorded over the course of one day in 2012, wrangling myriad rhythms, tones and shapes from Rabih’s famous collection of vintage analog synthesizers and sequencers meshed with Eko Tiger Duo organ and guitar, and some assistance from Tommaso Cappellato on drums and Piero Bittolo Bon on woodwind and electronics (with additional credits to both Mike Huckaby and Donato Dozzy), and post-production done in Berlin and Rome.

Jonsson / Alter – Mod Mixes [KM024]

Jonsson/Alter Mod album remixes are here, featuring Minilogue, Donato Dozzy and Dorisburg. All remixes has some kind uplifting and sunny trance mode to them, so as it turns out, this is actually the prefect spring release. Minilogue starts out with the track Kyrka 2.0 and ads both speed and length. Donato takes on the track Acapellan and does everything right. Keeping the beautiful vocals of the original, Donato adds bass line and new drums. The EP closes with another Swedish contribution. Alexander Berg aka Dorisburg from duo Genius Of Time reworks Djup House, and does it well. A solid bass line keeps us grounded to the dance floor while dreamy melodies and harmonies gently lift our serotonin levels.

Voices From The Lake – Voices From The Lake [PRGCD001]

Voices from the Lake is an intensely personal project borne out of the long-standing friendship between two Italian DJ/producers, Donato Dozzy and Neel. The project extends and deepens their explorations of ambient techno, with an emphasis firmly placed on the ‘techno’ component. Listening to Voices from the Lake is an immersive experience, as the textured beats and carefully crafted rhythms have a deeply hypnotic effect. The open, fluid structure of the music gives it an organic, natural feel, transporting you to more peaceful surroundings. With the music of Voices from the Lake there is a completely natural progression and flow, nothing is forced or hurried. The sounds develop and unfold at their own pace, creating a powerful sense of tranquility. The genesis of the Voices from the Lake album can be found in the mountains of Japan, where they made their live debut at The Labyrinth festival in 2011.

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS422829-01A-MED.jpg

The 4th installment in the 61 Center Returning series is an all Belgo-Italian affair. A side is taken up by Peter Van Hoesen and Donato Dozzy, with ‘Dock’ a dense, psychedelic track, bubbling percussion works its way through swirls of oscillating soundscapes. On the B-side Lucy reports for remix duty. He provides a remix ‘Defense Against The Self’ with a solid dose of steroids, injecting cavernous kicks and bleeps.
