Los Angeles’ Silent Servant returns to the fold with his first solo offering since his 2018 ”Shadows of Death and Desire” LP for Hospital Productions. Mendez wastes no time on the opener ”Cyber Luminescence” featuring Cabaret Voltaire’s Stephen Mallinder on vocals, with a modern take on classic synthwave displaying a heavier production style, with fluttering kr-55 hi-hats, synthesized snares, and a chaotic punk energy. This is not without melody and catchiness, as Mallinder drives the track full on; masterfully singing about a dystopian future which we very well may be living in at this moment. “Raw Optics” is Silent Servant in true form layering an atmospheric backdrop over driving raw sequences and vicious drum programming. “Solitude Illuminated” is the real centerpiece of the record though, as Mendez goes into a new territory finding a balance between uplifting slow house music and his signature shadowy techno. Where his classic “Lust Abandon” was more Distant Dreams pt. II, “Solitude Illuminated” is more akin to something like Dearborn’s house classic “New Dimension” but taking a fresh production approach on this bassline driven seven minute anthem.
For Number 6 on his Label Kluentah recrutes this mysterious guy called Kafkactrl. Six brain-throttling cuts of pure, ice-cold machine funk with melancholic pads and gut-punching basslines.
This double LP showcases the talent of Sour once again. The Florence based underground BuioClub owner has squeezed more acid juices out of of his analog gear collection. Eight excellent acid tracks carefully crafted to serve the dancefloor. Hypnotizing 303 basslines and solid kickdrums, driving hats, spicy percussion and captivating atmospheres.
“Mascarpone return with a new EP entitled ‘Structures’. The record encompasses five tracks of dark EBM industrial music with dirty synths and machine drums. The main goal of this EP is to pay homage to artists such as Dopplereffekt or Kraftwerk, which are very important to me, but in my own way.”
Madrid based producer Corp debut on Hivern Discs after releases on Libertine and his own imprint, Unusual Systems. “Paranoid Visions” is a collection of four hardware-based jams that navigate through electro, techno and trance.
Luca Lozano and Phran’s ‘Dos Ritmos’ project released its first record back in 2018, the Antropophony EP was a result of the duo’s shared appreciation for heavy percussion and worldly drums, sampled and mashed together to create a pan-national representation of polyrhythms and atmospherics. The second release from the duo sees Phran direct the project and expand the collaborative nature of the working process, contributors Ribes, Ivy Barkakati, Jonathan Sirit, and Hidden Memory all bring their own influences and flavors to the table. The ‘Materia’ EP steers the ship in a simliar direction to the first EP but the resulting tracks are more stripped down, driving and focus directly on whats makes a groove a groove.
Powerful Ep from Gesloten Cirkel. Comes with banging The Exaltics remix. Cult techno maverick Gesloten Circle sure knows how to rewire brains with his fizzing, caustic concoctions. This new one on Solar One Music is another case in point. Right from the off on ‘Halfman’ he is laying down jacked up drums, coruscated baselines and flashes of metallic synth that bristle with energy. ‘185’ is a twitchy, acid laced electro workout with robot vocals bring the cyborg funk and The Exaltics remix then hits harder and deeper on stiffer bass. There is still time for two more jams on the flip – the dystopian acid-electro of ‘Quiker’ and stark industrial electro of ‘Sequence Slip.’
Science Cult’s Occupants series is now on Vinyl for the first time and with version 1, assembling a global array of artists, presented as a double 12” Orange Color Vinyl LP. Astute observers may notice that there is more to the artwork than meets the eye. We find ourselves in a distant future where the remaining population of Earth is ruled by a mysterious A.I. that calls itself EVA. EVA has sent human-piloted research vessels to the farthest reaches of the galaxy to scout for potentially habitable planets and report any findings. These are the Occupants and they’re slowly awakening as EVA’s grip on their minds erodes.
Vincent Koreman a.k.a. Drvg Cvltvre has been cultivating its perfect mix of Techno, Electro and Acid for a few decades, varying speed as his gusto, but without removing an iota of intensity or darkness. In this new release through NNY Records, he again stands out from the rest of the producers thanks to four great tracks that move between slow, dense and epic Techno with acid touches and hazy environments (A Lion Sinester, Dead and Gone); the dirtiest and leatheriest Electro (Serbian Ballerinas) and the most abrasive and serious Acid you can find on the dance floor (You Smell Like Cheetos And Sadness).
The next chapter of Nosignal Records comes from Giri, Neapolitan DJ and producer, owner of Antiterra Records. Giri delivers three perfect tracks of extreme quality, ranging from vibes between space and forest. Following the remix of the Spanish techno master Tadeo, with a superb work.
