Model Man – Hidden Waves EP [BAP057]

Bordello A Parigi is returning to where it all began. Four years ago DJ Overdose inaugurated the label under his masked Model Man moniker. Now he’s back. Missile crisis and intercepted communique, Hidden Waves collects six underhanded secret music documents of Cold War espionage. Screaming out of the frost-biten night comes the mean and fast new wave inspired “Peeking Through The Blinds”. Softer encounters lurk, “Hidden Waves” and “The Plot Thickens While Pangea Cracks” being silver screen steeped soundtracks. Twist after twist are added to this narrative. “Burning Bed” smoulders with rich synthlines whilst “Antidote” ducks down an alley and dons a bleaker punk-wave mantle. The final late night exchange arrives with “Flying Knives”. Cool and smooth the track takes its cue from velvet lined wine bars and strong martinis. Model Man rising from the shadows to, again, show how things should be done.

Costelloe – Infiniti EP [RWT-3]

COSTELLOE - Infiniti EP

Next on Raw Tools is Irish producer and Signal Code label owner, Costelloe, delivering two tracks much in the manner of his previous works, both of them at the fine line between techno and house music. While the title track, “Infiniti” is definitely a dance floor track, with its rave pads and solid bassline, “Pheta X” shows a more darker side of Costelloe’s music. Both of these cuts get special treatment from two of the most prolific and respected producers out there, Lerosa and DJ Overdose, rounding off the EP with two amazing, yet diverse remixes.

DJ Overdose – Housejam Freaker [UTTU052]

DJ Overdose heads over to Unknown To The Unknown for a spot of techno-jackin’. Thrillingly, “Housejam Freaker” combines fizzing, upbeat machine drum rhythms, deep space chords and wild, sped-up Motor City electronics to create something that sounds like the bastard offspring of Jeff Mills, Drexciya and Phuture. Willie Burns provides the obligatory remix, offering something that retains the original’s energy whilst increasing the beauty factor tenfold. Elsewhere, he wanders into deep acid territory on the straight-up jacker “Dikzak”, and delivers a surprisingly funky dose of intergalactic electro on the cheery “Vinca”. A string of handy locked grooves complete a tasty package.

DJ Overdose – Hero’s Gone Mental EP [LIES062]

Must have record from a key figure in the West Coast’s (of Holland that is) underground scene. DJ Overdose has already smashed this year with his Master Control release on Viewlexx and picks up right where he left off with these four tracks. Moody, dramatic, filled with basslines and insane drum programming, this record is meant to be played loud on the dancefloor. Check the curveball title track Hero’s Gone Mental for maximum heads down in the cut vibes.

DJ Overdose – Master Control [V026]

After being returned from his abduction by aliens from the hidden planet Nibiru, DJ Overdose was given an alien synthesizer ‘the HAEX-HRLL’ as a thank you for all the cerebral research the aliens did on him. On returning back to Earth all DJ Overdose had to do was finish the 6 tracks the aliens had started to work on, which became this EP. Straight forward Techno Hop Electro Funk without any fancy-pants pretentious hooha. It’s like a black and white movie which makes you think ‘why the hell is there colors anyway?!’ After completion, the only record label he could imagine being fit for such rawness would be Viewlexx… and so here it is.

Hipodrome’s 2013 Review (Part 3 of 3)

Here is the third and final part of my 2013 review, featuring my favorite albums released last year. In the first part of the review, the preferences of hipodrome followers are shown, according to the number of click and stars. In the second part, I presented some of my favorite events and performances from last year.

Now here it comes the serious business. Because there are so many good albums and different genders, I took the same approach as in the 2012’s review.

The list is covering all the genders that I like and post on The Hipodrome Of Music, so I came up with no more than 20 gender lists, going from house to techno, disco and funk to electro and new wave …

Here we go.

Heinrich Dressel – The House Of The Rising Synth [BAP013]

DRESSEL, Heinrich - The House Of The Rising Synth

Rome based producer Heinrich Dressel sucks you into a movie full of pain and misery. The most sinister euro crime and giallo mixed to a heart crushing thriller filled with synthesizer suspense. Partner in crime DJ Overdose finished the job in style.

DJ Overdose – The Future Of The Planet EP [LDR013]

DJ OVERDOSE - The Future Of The Planet EP

Not a month has passed since his stunning album Bizarro World and Dutch electro champion Overdose returns with a handsome set of five new productions. Tip-toeing the line between Nordic disco, classic electro and good old fashioned house music, variety abounds while the quality, as always, remains consistent. Highlights include the uptempo swing and jazz chords of “141 Gates” the Faltermeyer style Outrun breeziness of “Nibiru” and the more menacing, loopy electro of “Sandokan”. The future of the planet depends on you…

The bomb that should have dropped way back when. After a career spanning almost two decades DJ Overdose debuts on Creme with his first full length album, upon which we remark with carefully considered understatement: ‘A veritable tour de resistance in film noir electronics, Bizarro World is a dank and dark alley made flesh. Overdose’s heavy soulful beats and soundscapes snatch your dreams right from under you like a shadowy kleptomaniac, masterfully pairing melancholy and ennui with fear and voyeuristic tiger-lurking-in-the-bushes paranoia. So lock up your future plans or you might very well find yourself without any’. For those who don’t know, DJ Overdose is one of the OG’s of the La Haya underground, one half of Novamen and the other half of The Hasbeens with classic and sought after releases on Bunker, Viewlexx, Murder Capital, Clone and Strange Life to name a few. In his spare time he doubles as a hand model for Bruce Willis.

Model Man – Forever Strangers [BAP001]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS431037-01A-MED.jpg

Model Man is the nom de plume of the diverse Dutch man DJ Overdose. ‘Forever Strangers’ is the second Model Man release with dark dense electro pop, sinister and playful on the new Bordello A Parigi imprint. DJ Overdose brings you pain and sorrow in this melancholic journey to a rainy Parisian whore-house. Don’t expect any joy, just go through the motions and find yourself en route to a deserted subway station in the 13th arrondisement.
